Thinking of getting your senior pics taken in a field?
The spring senior session season is upon us and with that comes some of the most beautiful spring field images. The light is airy, the grass is high, the pics are stunning! But there are a few things to think about to make sure that those field images are as beautiful as you envision.
Here are 5 things to consider when taking your senior pics in a field:
- Footwear: depending on the location, think about wearing close toed shoes. A lot of
fields also have ants, spiders, and snakes (eek) as well as uneven terrain. There’s nothing
worse than having to cut a session short because of a snake bite or a sprained ankle. - Mosquito spray: since most of the field portion of a session usually happens around the
golden hour (the hour before sunset), the mosquitos come out to play. Wearing mosquito
spray can help you avoid not only mosquito bites, but red bug bites too. - Lots of fabric: opt for a dress with a ton of extra flowy fabric to capture those beautiful
senior pics with lots of movement! Spring trends are featuring ruffles and tiers of fabric,
so this is the perfect season to find that perfect dress! - The color of your field outfit: ask your photographer what colors the fields are during the
month of your session so you can pick the right color for your dress. You definitely don’t
want to show up in a green dress when your entire backdrop is green, as you’ll disappear
in the picture. - Change up your hair to complement the vibes: if your field outfit is a long flowing dress,
opt for a super loose braid with tendrils framing your face. Or if you are wearing jeans and
boots, consider adding a hat or changing your hair to match your outfit.
What to wear for FIELD senior pics in the fall
Colors: Consider wearing colors that go well with warm toned surroundings like cream, mustard, navy, burnt orange, burgundy, caramel, eggplant, etc.
Textures: If you want to mix trendy fall textures, remember to mix a heavy weighted texture (like tweed, wool, cable knit) with a smoother or lighter textured piece (like satin, or suede). This will keep your outfit balanced and not too heavy, adding weight to your style.
Layers: This is the time for layers! So throw on that cardigan over your dress, a skirt over your tights, or a sweater over your long hemmed top to add a bit of interest to your outfit!
Prints: If you want to wear a fun fall print like fall large florals, anchor it with a solid piece so that your outfit isn’t too busy.- Accessories: Beanies & Berets are this season’s go-to hats! We are seeing these pop up in shades of cream, camel, and dusty rose, or in prints of houndstooth, leopard, and plaid!
Accessories- hats and fall flowers to hold and a pop of color for our Florida fields. Think browns and rusts, and a pop of orange with roses. The fields can be a bit monochromatic so adding these pops of color really add to the overall scene! I suggest a photo have three distinct shades, and this helps to complete that color triangle!
What to wear for FIELD senior pics in the spring
Colors: It’s time to switch it up and thing of beautiful spring colors to compliment the grasses and new growth! Think soft yellows, pinks and blues, even coral works well. A white dress is always a perfect match, but make sure there is something about it that makes it stand out!
Textures: The weather is getting warmer, and the sun is soft, so think of textures that make you feel like spring- linen, chiffon, light cotton.
Layers: Again, it’s getting warmer so heavy layers will be too much, but a soft sweater could be just the thing in the evening chill at sunset. Think of soft colors again! A lace wrap of duster works well too for some added texture and a boho vibe!
Prints: Soft florals for the win, again. Colorful stripes work well too, but they need to be soft and simple. Try and stay away from harsh colors and designs- they compete with the colors of the field.
Accessories- hats and spring flowers to hold and a pop of color for our Florida fields. Think babies breath, roses, and light colored flowers. Again, the fields can be a bit monochromatic so adding these pops of color really add to the overall scene! I suggest a photo have three distinct shades, and this helps to complete that color triangle!
