I think one of the greatest things about my job is working with clients year after year. I feel like I become a part of their family {I hope they want me}! This sweet family is no exception. I started photographing them when Maya was one, and have been lucky to call them mine for the last 5 years. For this family session at Washington oaks State park, we met at dusk before the temps got to hot and had a beautiful evening.
Each time we shoot, we try and thing of places that allow the kids to play but gives us beautiful scenery. And, as with most families, mom is a ball of nerves with the planning, and dad is easy breezy! {you know you are, dad} It’s part of the dynamics of family photography that I love- the interactions, the relationships. These two kids are as different as night and day, but so full of personality in their own way and this session showcased just that.
Maya is quiet, more gentle… the typical first born. She is kind, and reserved and allows the younger sibling to bask in his glowing spotlight. But, when the camera is just on her, and she smiles at you, you can see all the way to her soul, and I love that. At 6, Maya is as smart as she is feisty… and showing the beginning signs of those tween years. Self conscious and serious, more aware of her own space in this world, and in her family. It’s funny, because when I think back to photographing her as a baby, it’s exactly the same.
Ari, well, he is just the opposite. The youngest, the boisterous one. The one who owns the room, and loves it! His facial expressions and posing could entertain me for days! He is smart, and sassy, and loves to laugh. He is so full of life, you can’t help but want to be part of the party he is carrying around. I am lucky because he adores me as much as I adore him.
It’s been a long few months {years} for this momma, and I could not love her more {Ok, Anand, you know I adore you as well}. Reena, your spirit is as beautiful and as soulful as Maya. You have been through a tough journey, with the scars to prove it. But, in typical fashion, you have come out of it, with as much grace and elegance as you have had since the first moment I met you. You all mean so much to me, and I am so lucky to be a part of this journey. I love you all! And see, we got just what we needed!
